Chapter 16
~ Sammie ~
“You better be on your best behavior, young lady.” Braden is extra grouchy when we meet upstairs in our tiny room to get dressed for dinner.
“I’ve been very, very good.” I roll my eyes and dig through my shopping bags for an appropriate Christmas Eve dinner outfit. “Where did you go? You missed putting up the Colleen angel tree topper.”
“I went for a walk to clear my head.” His expression is guarded, and he won’t meet my eyes.
“Why?” I stalk toward him, licking my lips delectably. “Because you’re jealous of me kissing Will?”
He swipes his fingers through his hair—a nervous tell—and furrows his brows to look stern. “That’s what I want to talk to you about. Lindsay isn’t going to be happy when she finds out you’re ten years older than her son.”
“Oh, I doubt it’ll bother her.” I worry my lower lip and press my hands over Braden’s hard chest. “It’s you I’m worried about. You’re wound up so tight, you’re about to detonate.”
He surprises me by removing my hands. “Now’s not the right time. Jolene’s expecting us prim and proper for dinner and the Yule log lighting. Then it’s off to church we go.”
“Church, schmurch. Can’t we skip it?” I dangle a pair of lace panties he bought me. “Think I should put this on underneath my petticoat?”
Braden gives me a hot, desperate look, and I don’t have to stare at his crotch to know he’s up and ready. Too bad there’s a houseful of family underneath scurrying around and barging through doors.
Truthfully, they seem to have no sense of privacy—probably because no one, other than Wes and Jolene, is getting any sex. Will told me his mother’s not sleeping with Nash, and Macy says Damon’s as lonely as a priest.
“Just be good, okay?” Braden quits the staring contest and admits defeat by slumping on the bed. “We came here to give Poppy the best Christmas ever. I think you should cool the jets with that boy. He’s underage. How will you feel if this gets out?”
“You’ve a point there.” I twirl the lace panties and throw them at him. “He’s just a boy while you’re a man.”
He makes no attempt to catch them, letting them drop onto his lap. Poor guy must be weighed down from the strain of holding back.
“Oops.” I straddle him, and I can tell he’s one big, hard monster of a man. “You get hard so easily, don’t you?”
“Oh, Sammie, you don’t know how you tease.” He lets out a heavy breath, and his eyes get that intent look of a man on the hunt.
“Tease? You think it’s easy for me to pretend to be your daughter?” I press my breasts against his chest and palm the side of his face. “You have no idea how long it’s been since I got laid.”
“I don’t want to imagine you and that douchebag.”
“Sorry, what I meant is, you know.” I let my horny flesh glide over his well-defined bulge. Even with the layers of clothing covering us, I bet I can get him off with a lap dance.
